Introduction

This is a living guide to Josh. While the primary purpose of this document is to remind Josh how Josh works 😅, it also serves as a potentially valuable resource for others who by circumstance have ended up in a position where they must work with Josh. This is primarily written to Josh’s direct reports, however certain parts are relevant to anyone that Josh works with.

My Job

I'm the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Spare and am one of the co-founders.

How I spend my time

I currently separate my time in to the following buckets:

• Company Strategy:
  • Working with executive team to continuously iterate on company strategy. This includes everything from operating principles and company communication to growth strategies.
• Product & Design:
  • I lead our product team. At this time, this includes our team of Product Managers and Data Scientists, Design Leads, Product Designers and Visual Designers.
• Partner Success:
  • I work closely with the Partner Success lead to ensure increasingly happy customers and processes that enable this.
• People & Talent:
  • I work closely with the VP People & Talent to ensure constant improvement to our organizational practices and success of or people and talent orgs.
• Spare Technology Solutions (STS)
  • I work as one of the primary conduits between Spare and our joint venture with Mitsubishi Corp (STS) in Japan.
• Staffing:
  • Recruiting new team members and coaching current ones for all my teams
• Spare IT
  • I manage the processes related to Spare's IT practices
• Fundraising Activities:
  • Working with the executive team to develop fundraising strategies, build relationships with potential investors, build pitch decks and stories, pitch investors, and work with investors through the due-diligence phase of investment.
